Greenslate Community Farm

Greenslate Farm is a unique community run educational centre which offers real hands on experience in the world of farming.

Greenslate Community Farm is a 37 acre semi urban, not for profit eco farm providing therapeutic services and educational activities via food growing, conservation and agriculture, whilst providing fresh produce to the community using regenerative farming practices. We believe that children and young people learn by doing, so we give them the opportunity to get hands on experience in every aspect of the farm environment.

They run Straw Bale Café as part of Greenslate Community Farm.

The interior of a large polytunnel with several rows of vegetables and herbs at various stages of growth, including lettuce and seedlings, with woodchip paths between the beds and gardening equipment stored to the side.
A young person crouches down to interact with a group of black pigs in a muddy outdoor enclosure on the farm.
A smiling man kneels beside a newly built wooden raised garden bed with young plants in it, surrounded by reclaimed tyres used as planters and a woodchip surface on the farm.
Two people wave cheerfully from the decking of the organisation's Straw Bale Café, standing behind a banner displaying the café's opening hours - Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 4pm.

Community Farm

Our care farm has been established for over three years now and offers placements that centre around the meaningful activities of our working farm.

Community Farm

Growing food at Greenslate Farm has always been on the agenda. The farm was started by Billinge and Orrell Transition Group and one of the aims of the movement is to make the local community more resilient and self sufficient.
